East Cary Health Center
Background
We are opening a new clinic! Will you help us? Daily Planet Health Services purchased a building at 24 E. Cary Street in August 2023 to expand access to oral health, primary care, and case management services. We are in the process of renovating it to add eight dental chairs, six medical exam rooms, offices for supportive services and much more. Upon completion of renovations, East Cary Health Center will provide services to underserved individuals throughout the Richmond region including those experiencing homelessness and housing instability, living in or around public housing, and/or living with HIV.
What is your why?
Please join us in our “Give $24 for #24 East Cary Street in ‘24” capital campaign to raise the funds needed to open the doors of East Cary Health Center. Your support of our annual fund helps keep our doors open, your support of our capital campaign will help us open new doors.
What is our why?
At Daily Planet Health Services, our why is the thousands of patients that walk through our doors, physically and virtually, every year. By providing comprehensive health and supportive services to each of them, we are helping not only them, but their families, friends and the community – our community – overall. In recent years we have expanded services to increase access to care, but it hasn’t been enough to meet the needs of our community.
- Access to Care – Access to care is challenging for underserved populations and is at the forefront of our mission. Among our patients who chose to disclose their income, 96% were living at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. There are limited providers in the area that accept Medicaid or offer a sliding fee scale based on income for services, so people often rely on emergency departments for care.
- Long Dental Wait Times – The Medicaid adult dental benefit has created a large demand for care, creating long wait times. Patients that are new to DPHS and in need of dental services are put on a waiting list that currently has hundreds of people on it with an estimated appointment date of nine months to a year.
- Ryan White Program – The number of DPHS patients in the Ryan White program has increased 136% in just three years. This new site will allow us to increase access to oral health as well as primary care, including management of antiviral medications and PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) for HIV treatment and prevention.
