Safe Haven
Safe Haven is a 21-bed facility providing transitional housing with comprehensive and integrated health support services to homeless veterans with mental health and/or substance-use disorders. It provides 24-hour staff supervision and guidance with the ultimate goal of attaining permanent housing and independent living.
Safe Haven’s mission is to provide a safe and therapeutic environment where residents can stabilize their overall health, initiate and sustain recovery, enhance life skills, and transition into permanent housing.
Admission Criteria
- Adult male or female, 18 years old or older
- Homeless or imminent risk of homelessness (i.e. imminent eviction, fleeing domestic violence)
- Be eligible for VA healthcare or able to undergo eligibility determination
- Have a mental illness and/or substance use disorder
- Willing to participate in mental health and/or substance use treatment as needed
- Non-aggressive behavior
- Persons with prior conviction of specified violent and sexual offenses (as defined by Virginia state law for requiring registration on state sex offender registry) are ineligible for admission
Program Details
- We provide supportive services to promote stabilization, gain access to resources for employment, benefits, and housing.
- Routine and planned activities are designed to increase residents’ social and life skills.
- Clinically focused treatment is provided by licensed clinical staff and includes individual and group therapy, access to psychiatric care, and recovery support.
- Case conferences are held weekly and include clinical staff, case managers, and referring community partners.
- Trained and caring staff are on site 24/7.
